Running a car with a diesel engine on straight vegetable oil, or SVO will cost you about $3,000 in both parts and labor. Within a year you will gain back what you saved by not buying gasoline at the pump. Besides, vegetable oil isn’t healthy to consume as food, so we may as well put it to good use instead! What is there to lose? Keep the pounds off your body, get more mileage out of your car. Sounds great to me!

Formula Zero is the first and (so far) only International championship for Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicles. This championship is being kicked off in Rotterdam on August 22nd and 23rd and then will conclude with three more races around the globe.

“The team from Leuven-based Group T technical university will compete with five other teams from colleges and universities in the United States, Spain, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Only six teams made it through the initial design competition. The Solvay Umicore Zero Emission Racing Team includes experienced eco-racers, who were also members of the Umicore Solar Team which came in second during the “World Solar Challenge” in Australia in October 2007.”

There will always be racing fans across the world, but perhaps with Formula Zero the wonderful world of racing will gain new, green fans and show the world that it’s possible to race powerfully and spare the Earth at the same time.

A Chinese company named Shanghai Pearl Hydrogen Power Resource Technology Co Ltd has produced the first Hydrogen Fuel Cell moped and they have already started shipping them overseas. I have yet to see one of these personally, but they seem like a great alternative to the usual gasoline powered mopeds I hear racing up and down the street at 3:00 A.M.

Hybrid Trucks

Apparently Raser technologies is looking to build a Hybrid Truck - the E-REV - that will get 100MPG. It will be 4WD and weigh a half ton like the Ford F150. This truck will be different from the other Hybrid Trucks and other Hybrid vehicles out there, though. The gasoline engine will exist solely to recharge the batteries, thus making this hybrid truck run completely on electricity.

Chevy Silverado Hybrid

Chevy produced the 2009 Silverado Hybrid in 2007 but they won’t be available to the public until 2009.

The GMC Denali XT is another Hybrid truck, but it hasn’t hit production yet.

Other Hybrid Trucks:

2009 GMC Sierra Hybrid
Toyota A-BAT Hybrid
